An eyebrow hair transplant is a specialized minor surgical procedure that enhances the appearance of eyebrows by restoring lost or thinning hair. Eyebrow hair loss, also known as eyebrow alopecia or madarosis, can emerge due to age, genetics, health status, and more. (1) Eyebrows play an important role in the perception of an individual’s appearance and identity and also protect the eyes. Thinning eyebrow hair can cause emotional distress for patients; ranging from a minor distaste for their lack of hair to major identity crises. Men and women without eyebrows use microblading and/or tattooing to display artificial eyebrows. Eyebrow transplants are a natural, safe, and effective solution and procedure to restore natural eyebrows.

Hair transplants comprise 99% of all performed surgical hair restoration procedures. Their popularity is largely based on their success, and continuous innovation and refinement have also come as a result. (2) Risks and complications from eyebrow and hair transplants, if any, are minimal, and patients are consistently satisfied with their results. Eyebrow hair transplants allow patients to return to their expressive, animated selves.

About Eyebrow Transplants

Eyebrows serve a handful of important functions that we take for granted. Keeping sweat and debris from entering the eyes is a luxury that can become a major frustration as the hair thins. Eyebrows are also one of the most important features we use for non-verbal communication. Emotions and reactions of all types are conveyed by eyebrow movements. While appearance and confidence can be corrected with makeup and cosmetic tattooing, many patients feel that there is no true substitute for fuller and denser, natural eyebrows.

Hormonal shifts, aging, genetic predispositions, injuries, diseases, malnutrition, and more can cause hair loss. Typically, madarosis will be categorized into either a “scarring” classification or “non-scarring” depending on its cause. (1) As the loss of eyebrow hair can lead to social withdrawal, loss of emotional communication ability, and even vision damage, patients usually opt to fix their condition. Fortunately, eyebrow and hair transplants have shown immense success in regrowing hair, increasing hair density, and fullness, and ensuring patient satisfaction while also keeping recovery time to a minimum.

What is FUE?

Follicular Unit Extraction, or FUE for short, also known as Follicular Unit Excision, is a popular hair transplant technique recognized for its effectiveness in treating hair loss. This minimally invasive procedure allows for the careful extraction of individual hair follicles from a donor area, which are then transplanted into thinning or balding regions of the scalp, and other areas such as the eyebrows. Many people seek FUE to regain their natural hairline, boost their confidence, and achieve a youthful appearance. FUE is the procedure that is primarily utilized by Dr. Jezic and his team for eyebrows. In some cases, the hair transplant surgeon may opt to perform a Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) procedure which takes a tiny strip from both sides of the head that is then dissected into individual grafts for implantation into the thinning and balding areas.

Benefits of an Eyebrow Hair Transplant

If a loss of eyebrow hair is a burden, then your happiness and peace of mind are the primary benefits of receiving an eyebrow hair transplant. However, Dr. Jezic’s patients also experience:

  • Permanent Results: Unlike temporary options such as microblading, your own transplanted hair is permanent and grows naturally.
  • Natural Appearance: Hair follicular transplantation provides softer and more realistic results, blending seamlessly with existing eyebrow hair.
  • Increased Eyebrow Density: Individuals can achieve a significantly fuller and denser look that complements their facial structure.
  • Customized Shape and Style: Patients can work closely with Dr. Jezic and his clinical team to design eyebrows that match their desired shape, enhancing facial symmetry.
  • Minimal Downtime: Most patients experience limited downtime, allowing them to return to regular activities quickly.
  • Reduced Need for Makeup: With fuller eyebrows, patients may reduce or eliminate their reliance on cosmetic products to fill in sparse areas.
  • Safe Procedure: Performed by a qualified hair transplant surgeon and certified clinicians, eyebrow hair transplants have a low complication risk.
  • Long-Lasting Solution: Follicles continue to grow after transplantation, resulting in lifelong benefits.

Candidates

Because eyebrow hair transplants are low-risk, minimally invasive elective procedures, candidacy is open to nearly all patients who seek it. It is important to have enough hair elsewhere on the body — typically on the sides and back of the scalp — from where to harvest safely while maintaining a natural appearance. Overall, ideal candidates for an eyebrow hair transplant procedure are patients who are in relatively good health, do not smoke, have a strong desire to improve the appearance of their eyebrow hair density, have realistic expectations about their procedural outcomes, and listen to Dr. Jezic’s preparation and recovery instructions.

Personal Consultation

When you meet with Dr. Jezic and/or his clinical team to discuss your eyebrow hair transplant, you will first discuss what caused your eyebrow thinning. Some underlying conditions may affect the outcome of a procedure, but this also allows Dr. Jezic and his team to understand the scope of the procedure and your goals. Dr. Jezic and his clinicians will review your medical history to ensure that there are no conditions or medications that could complicate the procedure. We recommend that you have a list of questions to discuss with Dr. Jezic or his clinicians to maximize the information you receive and create a foundation for success through clear communication.

Preparation

Dr. Jezic will create an eyebrow transplant plan specific to your goals and starting point after your initial consultation. Based on this, you will receive more specific preparatory responsibilities. However, we generally recommend all patients to:

  • Halt the use of any topical hair growth medications (like Minoxidil (Rogaine))
  • Avoid consuming alcohol for at least one week before the procedure
  • Abstain from smoking or using nicotine products
  • Keep your skin and scalp clean, healthy, and hydrated

On the day of your procedure, you will be given preprocedural antibiotics to reduce infections. (2) Because hair transplants are minimally invasive, local anesthetic is commonly employed.

Procedure

Dr. Jezic and his team carefully plan the eyebrow transplant procedure to give patients the best outcomes possible. Even slight variations could create appearances of confusion, surprise, anger, or others. (1) Therefore, it is imperative to have your hair transplant done by a specialized hair transplant doctor who knows what he is doing. Inexperienced practitioners can implant the hair at the wrong angles, resulting in a doll-like or spiked hair appearance. Either at your initial consultation or at other preparatory appointments, you may be required to bring old photographs of your face. This helps Dr. Jezic and his team sculpt eyebrows that have a natural, neutral appearance. If only one eyebrow is losing hair, then it will be sculpted to mirror the existing one. Using Follicular Unit Extraction/Excision (FUE) techniques, Dr. Jezic and his team will skillfully complete the eyebrow hair transplant one hair follicle, or follicular unit, at a time. This method removes individual hair follicles from the donor site and places them one by one into the eyebrow skin.

Eyebrow Hair Transfer Recovery and Results

Hair transplants, especially those for eyebrows, do not require complicated recovery plans. You will be able to continue with your daily routine within a couple of days following your procedure, but we do recommend taking things easy. Try to avoid sudden facial movements for the first 24-48 hours. Dr. Jezic will likely prescribe a minor antibiotic regimen to assist healing. Most importantly, do not touch the new eyebrow until the incisions have healed.

It will be important to keep the skin clean and moist. Dr. Jezic will likely recommend you apply an unscented saline facial spray every 3-4 hours. (1) You may experience some swelling in the area; if so, treat this with a cold compress and anti-inflammatory medications. (1) Most patients are back to normal within 3-4 days.

Once your swelling has dissipated and your transplants have healed, you will see fuller eyebrows that give you a rejuvenated, proportional, youthful face with a full range of emotional expressions.

Cost of Eyebrow Hair Transplants in Houston

Eyebrow hair transplants can range in scale from extremely minor to total eyebrow reconstruction. No two patients will have the same procedure, so there is not one cost. The price of your transplant will depend on your goals.

Because so many factors need to be considered in determining the price of your transplant, the best way to receive a cost estimate is to schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Jezic or one of his senior clinicians and discuss your goals. Generally speaking, eyebrow transplants are more affordable compared to conventional hair transplants to the scalp.

FAQ

Where does the transplanted hair for eyebrows come from?

Follicular grafts can come from any place on the body that has hair, but they are typically taken from the scalp either at the back or sides of the head.

What will my eyebrow hair transplant results look like?

Dr. Jezic and his skilled clinicians take special care to give you natural-looking results that match your facial structure and overall hair density.

Will I have scars on my face after an eyebrow hair transplant?

Scars may form if patients are not responsible for their recovery and healing and do not follow post-op instructions, but Dr. Jezic makes incisions in places that will be covered by hair to hide any procedural scars.

Will I feel pain during the procedure?

Local anesthesia minimizes any discomfort. Most patients report feeling a sensation of pressure rather than pain during the extraction and placement phases.
